Jamie Reid: Time For Magic book launch

Please join us to celebrate the launch of the new Jamie Reid book Time For MagicA Shamanarchist’s Guide To The Wheel Of The Year. This beautiful new book offers an entrancing overview of Jamie Reid’s incredible art, structured around the eight seasonal festivals of the Wheel of the Year (the equinoxes and solstices plus Imbolc, Beltane, Lughnasadh and Samhain). Jamie observed these festivals, holding rituals at his allotment in Liverpool, and focused on this theme in his later paintings. This book features key Wheel of the Year artworks as well as famous earlier pieces, including the pre-punk, Situationist-inspired agit-prop and the work he produced for the Sex Pistols.

Co-author, friend and gallerist John Marchant will present an audio visual guide to the book and field questions about this most singular and enigmatic artist, who lived in Liverpool for the majority of his life, making The Florrie his spiritual home and studio in his later years.

Time For Magic is co-authored by Stephen Ellcock, Philip Car-Gomm and John Marchant. Stephen Ellcock in conversation with John Marchant introduces Jamie’s life, legacy and love of making trouble; John Marchant provides captions giving deep insight in Jamie’s work; and Philip Carr-Gomm writes about the Wheel of the Year and how it can help us find a new way of being in this era of climate crisis.

John will be joined on stage by Jamie’s old friend anarcheologist Rhys Mwyn and Jamie’s daughter Rowan Reid. Liverpool legend Tom Calderbank will also perform a tribute to Jamie and his legacy.

This event will be co-hosted with Liverpool’s most renowned independent book shop News From Nowhere, who will have books available to purchase on the night. As always we are extremely grateful to everyone at The Florrie for their kindness and hospitality.

We would also like to thank Watkins Books for their support in publishing this wonderful book.

Tickets are free but donations are welcome. Any monies raised will go directly to The Florrie food fund.

The event is finished.
