Three Liverpool-based Community Land Trusts (CLTs) Rotunda, L8 Matters and The Florrie are celebrating a significant milestone as they progress through Liverpool City Council’s Community Asset Land Transfer, bringing them closer to taking ownership of land to deliver 225 new build homes and over 2000m2 of new managed workspace for long-term community benefit.

All three CLT’s form part of the Liverpool CLT Collective with each rooted in their local communities, reaching a major milestone with agreements now in place for the transfer of land through Liverpool City Council’s Community Asset Land Transfer policy. This marks a major step forward in Liverpool’s ambitious community-led housing programme, paving the way for land to move into long-term community ownership and enabling the delivery of 225 high quality affordable homes and associated jobs and wider economic benefits.

The programme is being delivered in partnership with Liverpool City Council and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, who to date have provided significant pre-development funding that has been vital in supporting the CLT’s progress to date.

Councillor Graham Morgan, Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Cabinet Member for Housing and Regeneration, said:
“This marks a major step forward for community-led housing in the Liverpool City Region. This programme shows what’s possible when local organisations, residents and partners work together with a shared vision for long-term community benefit. By placing land into community stewardship, we are not only delivering much-needed affordable homes, but also creating stronger, more resilient neighbourhoods where local people have a genuine stake in shaping their future.”

The three Land Trusts and their partners are:

Rotunda Community Land Trust in Kirkdale North Liverpool is progressing ground breaking plans to deliver 112 vital affordable homes, owned and led by the community. The concept combines local leadership, environmentally conscious Passivhaus technologies and dementia-friendly design principles to support intergenerational living and centre resident experience. This ambitious project is preceded by Rotunda House, a Grade II listed heritage building refurbished by Rotunda CLT now serving renewed social purpose as high quality transitional housing and wraparound support for women facing barriers to accessing opportunities. Rotunda House will open in July 2026.

L8 Matters Community Land Trust is leading a community-driven regeneration programme in and around Lodge Lane, Liverpool 8, ensuring that new development reflects local priorities and delivers lasting social value. Established in March 2021, the Trust exists to benefit the people who live and work in Liverpool 8 through the delivery of affordable housing, community facilities and economic opportunities. Working in partnership with a registered housing provider, L8 Matters is bringing forward the first phase of its vision on the former Lodge Lane Baths site, delivering 16 affordable homes comprising a mix of houses and apartments, alongside landscaped open space and gardens. This development represents the first step towards the wider ambition for the Lodge Lane Baths Village, a vibrant, mixed-use neighbourhood combining affordable housing with community facilities, education, employment and training opportunities, enterprise space, an indoor market and outdoor community spaces. At the heart of L8 Matters’ approach is a commitment to community ownership and stewardship of land in perpetuity. Through the provision of genuinely affordable homes, community assets, training and employment opportunities, and inclusive spaces, the Trust aims to strengthen social inclusion, support local aspirations and drive the long-term social and economic regeneration of Liverpool 8

The Florrie Community Land Trust, working in partnership with The Sovini Group, is now progressing the detailed design and development of one of the most ambitious community-led housing regeneration programmes in Dingle, Liverpool 8. Building on The Florrie’s long-established role as a trusted community anchor, the development will create 97 high quality affordable homes, vibrant new public green spaces, active travel routes connecting Dingle to Liverpool city centre and 11 commercial units that will support local enterprise, create jobs and strengthen the local economy. Established in 2019, The Florrie CLT and the development is shaped by its members, ensuring local people play a central role in creating a housing scheme that reflects their aspirations and delivers lasting social, economic and environmental benefits for generations to come.

The agreement of Heads of Terms represents a critical milestone in the Community Asset Transfer process, confirming shared commitment between the Council and the CLTs to bring land into community stewardship for long-term benefit.

Maxine Ennis, speaking on behalf of the Liverpool CLT Collective said:

“Reaching agreement with the Council on the land transfer is a defining moment for our projects and the city. It demonstrates a clear vote of confidence from the Council in our ambitions to place Liverpool at the forefront of community-led housing nationally. The CLT’s will ensure that the housing built on our sites will be affordable and place the needs of local residents at the heart of the developments.”

The initiative also reflects the city region’s strong commitment to community-led regeneration and alternative housing models that prioritise affordability, sustainability, and resident involvement.

As the transfer process continues, the CLTs will continue to work in partnership with Liverpool City Council, Liverpool Combined Authority and Homes England to finalise all necessary design, planning and funding issues to accelerate the delivery of much needed social housing across the city.

Once completed, the schemes will collectively deliver:

225 new permanently affordable, community-owned homes across north and south Liverpool

Long-term community stewardship of land and assets

Locally designed housing reflecting neighbourhood priorities

Increased community control over development and regeneration

The initiative also reflects Liverpool’s growing commitment to community-led regeneration and alternative housing models that prioritise affordability, sustainability, and resident involvement.

A group of men from Liverpool’s Dingle will set off on a powerful international journey this summer, travelling from Dingle to Dingle as part of a community remembrance trip focused on connection, friendship, and men’s mental health.

Departing on 10th July, members of The Florrie’s men’s wellbeing walking group, Walk Florrie, will make the journey in memory of five much-missed members whose friendships, support, and presence helped shape the group into what it is today.

These were not just members of a walking group. They were part of a close-knit community built on trust, honesty, and looking out for one another. Their loss is deeply felt across Walk Florrie, and this journey offers a way to carry their memory forward with purpose. Every step taken on this journey will be in their honour, reflecting the bond they shared and the lasting impact they have had on the group and the wider Florrie community.

The trip is also a fundraiser for The Florrie and Walk Florrie, helping ensure the group can continue supporting men across Liverpool through regular walks, open conversation, and community support.

At the heart of the journey is a simple but powerful message:
Mental Health Knows No Borders
“Níl aon teorainneacha ag baint leis an tsláinte mheabhrach”

Founded at The Florrie in Liverpool’s Dingle, Walk Florrie brings men together each week to walk, talk openly, and look out for one another. What started as a small group has grown into a vital support network that continues to make a real difference in people’s lives.

During the trip, the group will spend two nights in Galway before travelling on to Dingle, where they will connect with local organisations and community members. The visit will include a tour with the Blasket Centre and a wellbeing walk and discussion with a community group from Connemara.

A key aim of the visit is to build a genuine and lasting relationship between the two Dingle communities, showing how something as simple as walking and talking can have a real impact on mental health and wellbeing.

Tony Caveney, founder of Walk Florrie, said:
“This trip means a great deal to all of us at The Florrie. We’re carrying the memory of our fallen brothers with us every step of the way. Going from Dingle to Dingle was a pipe dream that myself and Ian Jones would always talk about on the walks. Sadly, Ian lost his short battle with cancer in July 2025, so we thought it was only right to honour his memory by fulfilling that journey on his anniversary, while also building links between the two Dingle communities. The journey symbolises connection, friendship, and the power of community.”

The trip builds on the success of last year’s visit to Vallecas, where Walk Florrie connected with a working-class community in Madrid to share experiences and build relationships across borders. That visit showed that conversations around mental health and support are shared everywhere.

This year’s journey continues that mission, taking the message even further while raising vital funds to support the future of Walk Florrie and The Florrie.

To support the journey and donate, visit:
https://www.gofundme.com/f/dingle-to-dingle-walk-florrie-community-remembrance-journey

Walk Florrie hopes the trip will honour those they have lost while creating new friendships, strengthening community ties, and leaving a lasting legacy for everyone involved.

This summer, The Florrie is offering a fantastic programme of FREE holiday activities for children and young people who are eligible for benefits-related free school meals.

We have dedicated sessions for two age groups, with activities for 5-10 year olds every Monday and Tuesday, and sessions for 11-16 year olds every Wednesday and Thursday throughout the summer holidays.

Our Summer Youth Club will take young people on a journey around the world, with each week exploring a different continent and the cultures, countries, traditions and music that make it unique. Activities include arts and crafts, sports, games, media projects, DJ workshops and much more.

Alongside our themed youth club sessions, children and young people can also enjoy a range of special activities throughout the summer, including bouncy castle and outdoor activity days, canal boat trips on The Pride of Sefton, picnics in the park, and end-of-summer celebration parties.

All children will receive snacks and a hot meal during their session or trip.

Spaces are limited, so book early to avoid disappointment.

Please note:

Activities are only available to children and young people who are eligible for benefits-related free school meals.

Parents and guardians are not permitted to stay during sessions. Children must be dropped off at the start of their session and collected promptly at the end.

Please only book children onto sessions that match their age group (either 5-10 years or 11-16 years).

We look forward to welcoming children and young people for a summer full of fun, friendship and new experiences!

We’re incredibly proud to announce that our number one volunteer, Lee, along with The Florrie Guitar Group, have both been nominated for the prestigious BBC Radio Merseyside Make a Difference Awards.

After 10 years of bringing people together through music, friendship and community spirit, it’s fantastic to see The Florrie Guitar Group recognised in this way. Led by Tim Tierney, what started as a small gathering has grown into a much-loved community group with thousands of members taking part over the years, helping people build confidence, improve wellbeing and connect with others through a shared love of music.

The nomination is also a brilliant recognition of Lee’s dedication and passion. Anyone who knows Lee knows just how much time, energy and heart he puts into supporting The Florrie and welcoming everyone through our doors. Since finding out about his nomination earlier today, he’s been absolutely buzzing and telling everyone in the building the good news.

On Friday 15th May 2026, Lee Hughes, a member of The Florrie’s Men’s Wellbeing Group, will take on an extraordinary challenge to raise funds and awareness for men’s mental health.

Lee will take on a massive walk through every Liverpool postcode, from L1 to L40, covering communities across the city to send a powerful message: mental health affects every neighbourhood, and no one should suffer in silence.

The fundraiser is deeply personal for Lee, who has faced significant mental health struggles following the loss of both his parents and a relationship breakdown in 2024.

After reaching crisis point and being admitted to Royal Liverpool University Hospital, Lee began the difficult journey toward recovery. He received life-saving treatment and was later supported by James’ Place on Catherine Street & The Florrie in Liverpool 8, where he was able to open up about his experiences for the first time.

Lee said:

“I’d been crying out to open up to someone but would never ask for help. I saw it as weakness. I now know that asking for help is strength. Walking has given me purpose, discipline and structure. The Florrie and the lads at Walk Florrie have helped me massively with my recovery.

Mental health knows no borders. It affects every community. I know there are men out there like I was, suffering in silence. Please don’t. There is a better way.”

Lee was introduced to The Florrie, a Grade II listed community arts and heritage venue in Liverpool’s L8, where he joined Walk Florrie, a men’s wellbeing group that meets twice weekly to encourage open conversation and connection through walking.

Since joining, Lee says he has found brotherhood, belonging and renewed strength. He now also takes part in additional wellbeing activities at The Florrie.

This is not Lee’s first remarkable fundraiser. In 2025, he completed a non-stop 100,000-step walk in just 13 hours to thank the organisations that supported him in his recovery.

Tony Caveney, who founded Walk Florrie, said:

“When we started Walk Florrie in 2022, it was about creating a safe space for men to talk, move and support one another. Lee embodies exactly what this group is about. His courage in sharing his story and taking on this challenge will inspire others to reach out and realise they are not alone.”

Lee’s postcode walk will begin in the city centre in the early hours of the morning before finishing at The Florrie that evening. Supporters, members of the public and media are encouraged to join Lee for sections of the walk, cheer him on along the route and help spread awareness. For more info email info@theflorrie.org.

Funds raised will support The Florrie’s men’s wellbeing programmes and wider community services.
